Kat Peace
I am a neurodivergent and self-taught visual artist working primarily in acrylic, sometimes watercolor and oil. My practice is grounded in a lifelong relationship with beauty, color, and transformation — first through a 10-year career as a professional makeup artist in the bridal, editorial, and body art worlds, and now through visual art painting on canvas. After transitioning into a career in education and disability research, I returned to visual art as a personal refuge — a space for creative autonomy and emotional exploration. What began as tentative experimentation has grown into a disciplined practice, nurtured by study, mentorship, and an intuitive connection to form and texture. My work often reflects my deep familiarity with the human face and body as expressive surfaces, influenced by my background in makeup artistry. I’m particularly drawn to themes of embodiment, memory, and sensory experience. Though early in my painting journey (since 2020, and the pandemic), I am increasingly focused on developing a visual language that fuses technical curiosity with emotional resonance. Lastly, I have ventured into showcasing my art publicly as the owner of Hue House, a boutique art studio and growing independent gallery in Muncie, Indiana.
